{"id":1,"date":"2025-06-25T01:43:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T01:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcbeeusa.com\/joinsteve\/?p=1"},"modified":"2026-02-13T09:11:38","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T15:11:38","slug":"saf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcbeeusa.com\/spry\/2025\/06\/25\/saf\/","title":{"rendered":"Are You Spry AF?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Sue Garvey<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The concept of SPRY came to me about 8 years ago while talking to my hairdresser.\u00a0 We are both about the same age and he said what he hates about getting older is people treating you like you had regressed to being a child, like a server saying something like \u201cHi sweetie, what would you like today\u201d?\u00a0 Or talking down to you like you don\u2019t understand things.\u00a0 Treating you as if you are inept and feeble.\u00a0 Or \u201cI love that little old lady, she\u2019s so spry\u201d!\u00a0 As if having energy makes you unique as you age.\u00a0 Or he\u2019s 65 years young today!\u00a0\u00a0 Like that\u2019s a compliment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Don\u2019t get me started on \u201cOK Boomer.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The idea that we don\u2019t understand how things are today.\u00a0 We aren\u2019t tech savvy, don\u2019t understand how difficult the job market is, like we haven\u2019t tried to find a job in this economy.\u00a0 I\u2019ve gotten four jobs since turning 60.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve had to fight through the difficulty of trying to play the job-hunting game, just like everyone else, with the added handicap of facing age discrimination.\u00a0 I\u2019ve learned new software and programs non-stop since I learned to type on a manual typewriter in 1972 and had a class in computers that talked about punch cards. I\u2019ve lived through the constant updates in technology during a period when most of what we have today was just beginning.\u00a0 Like things costing more doesn\u2019t affect us, because we supposedly lucked out and were able to buy a home, when they can\u2019t even contemplate owning home.\u00a0 I understand that anger and feel helpless when talking to my son, who is 36 and can\u2019t understand how he\u2019ll ever buy a place.\u00a0 But we live in this economy too!\u00a0\u00a0 Being a boomer doesn\u2019t make things easier.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A lot of seniors have never owned nor will ever own a home. \u00a0Like being screwed over by capitalism and greed; by more and more things, that make all of us more secure and stable, are being taken away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">After that moment 8 years ago, I am now ready to turn the idea of being spry on it\u2019s head and am ready to act.\u00a0 I am being joined by two good friends that embody both similar and different aspects of being SPRY.\u00a0\u00a0 We are not \u201cspry\u201d!\u00a0 We are SPRY!\u00a0 We are not naive, clueless people who are looked at like we\u2019re helpless.\u00a0 Our bodies have changed, but we are who we\u2019ve always been!\u00a0 Fun and serious, goofy and intellectual, tireless or tired, meeting challenges with determination and committed to living the best life we want, no matter what that looks like to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">To me SPRY is not giving in or giving up.\u00a0 To not feel helpless in the face of aging.\u00a0 To embrace our natural curiosity and getting out there doing and learning new things.\u00a0\u00a0 To be unafraid to try to make friends or to be alone, but not lonely.\u00a0\u00a0 To embracing the things that made us <u>US, <\/u>\u00a0way back when we started, no matter what that may be.\u00a0 To dance our asses<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0off to a live band, to sing at the top of our lungs while hearing our favorite songs in the car, to be creative, to be bold, to travel together or by ourselves, to push ourselves to do things that make us uncomfortable, <\/span><u style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">to not give up being who we are at the core of our spirit and intrinsic nature.<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">If the idea of SPRY resonates with you, we hope you\u2019ll join us in this exploration.\u00a0\u00a0 What exactly SPRY will be is evolving \u2013 maybe a podcast, maybe meet ups with like minded people, maybe a blog or cool website, maybe just sharing with each other and knowing there are people out there just like us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">For now, we\u2019d love you to hear your ideas of what SPRY means to you.\u00a0\u00a0 How you\u2019d like to show up for yourself in this very exciting, fun and interesting part of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;
